Plain-language privacy information

EarthQuakeTracker Privacy Policy

The current tracker works without an account. This page explains what the application requests and what it does not currently store.

Current Application Data

EarthQuakeTracker does not currently provide user accounts, authentication, saved profiles, comments, or a visitor database. The browser requests earthquake results from our application endpoint, which in turn requests the selected official USGS feed. Filters such as time range, magnitude, sort order, significance, and place text are used to update the page and are not designed as personal profile information.

Normal hosting infrastructure may process standard request information needed to deliver and protect a website, such as IP address, request time, browser information, requested path, and security logs. Retention and access depend on the hosting environment and operational requirements.

Location Permission

The homepage does not automatically request your precise location. A future earthquake-near-me feature will ask only after a clear user action. If implemented, browser geolocation will require the permission prompt controlled by your browser or device. Denying permission will not prevent use of the global map and ordinary location-text filters.

Location should be used only to calculate a nearby search and distance within the requested feature. This page will be updated before any materially different storage or sharing behavior is introduced. You can review or revoke location permission in browser or device settings.

Live Data and Map Tiles

Live earthquake data originates from USGS services through the application backend. Map tiles are requested from an OpenStreetMap-compatible provider and include source attribution. These resources may receive standard request information needed to provide their services.

EarthQuakeTracker does not provide visitor-facing links to those external services.

Contact Messages

If you email the editorial contact, the message contains your email address and whatever information you choose to provide. Send only what is necessary for the inquiry. Do not send passwords, identification documents, health records, financial details, or precise personal location. Contact messages may be retained long enough to review the issue, document a correction, prevent abuse, and maintain ordinary correspondence records.

Updates and Questions

This privacy information will change if the website adds accounts, analytics, advertising, stored preferences, location features, or other data practices. Material changes should be described here in clear language. Questions about this page can be sent through the contact information.
