Earthquake Information Disclaimer

EarthQuakeTracker makes public seismic information easier to explore, but the website is not an official warning system or a substitute for local emergency instructions.

Not an Emergency or Warning Service

EarthQuakeTracker is not a replacement for instructions from local governments, geological agencies, emergency services, tsunami warning centers, or official early-warning systems. If you feel shaking, take protective action immediately. Do not wait for this website, a map marker, or a refreshed event list before responding.

For evacuation, tsunami, utility, medical, damaged-building, and re-entry decisions, use the official channels responsible for your location.

Preliminary and Revisable Earthquake Data

Live records are supplied through USGS feeds and may initially be automatic. Magnitude, magnitude type, time, depth, coordinates, place description, status, significance, and event classification can change as more station data arrive or analysts review the solution. Some small events may appear later or remain below detection thresholds.

No Earthquake Prediction or Personal Risk Assessment

A cluster of recent earthquakes does not allow this site to predict the exact time, location, or magnitude of a future event. The absence of recent markers does not prove low long-term hazard. EarthQuakeTracker does not assess a building, calculate insurance exposure, determine evacuation zones, or provide an individualized safety forecast.

Magnitude, Maps, and Impact

Magnitude measures source size and is not a direct damage rating. A mapped epicenter does not show the full rupture or the complete area of shaking. Local effects depend on depth, distance, geology, rupture direction, exposure, construction, and secondary hazards. Consult official intensity, ShakeMap, PAGER, tsunami, and local impact products when available.
